David Potter

Chairman and CEO

David Potter is a pioneer in the telecom industry. In 1971, while attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, he founded SOURCE. While working his way through college at Anixter Wire and Cable, he came across a discarded central office switch. Seizing the opportunity, he purchased it at low cost and quickly found a buyer. With the profits, he began SOURCE and established himself and the company as early innovators in an emerging industry - focused on buying and selling excess, new and used telecommunications equipment.

Over the past three decades Potter has guided the growth and transformation of SOURCE into a fully integrated and diversified provider of telecom solutions, including asset management, installation, repair and refurbishment, technical support, migration planning, disaster recovery and project management. All SOURCE services are supported by a proprietary management system – a competitive edge and differentiating weapon Potter foresaw and his vision created.

Potter's technology vision led to the development of SOURCE's complete equipment database, which records transaction details including equipment sale, price and part history, repair and manufacturing. As technology in computers evolved and speed increased, Potter implemented serialized bar coding for each piece of equipment. This database of repair and deployment information continues to provide SOURCE with key information needed to make quick product evaluations, while tracking customer patterns and needs. It also allows SOURCE to offer equipment-forward and -reverse logistics, enhanced with repair, warranty capture and equipment remarketing, for some of the world's largest telecom service providers and end-user corporations.

Under Potter's leadership, SOURCE has become a leading, trusted telecom resource for information and expertise on equipment value. Often called as an expert witness and industry spokesperson, Potter demonstrates a personal commitment to quality and service which is confirmed by a serial database that has driven the entire company's pursuit of training and certification standards – not only for SOURCE, but also for the entire telecom remarketing industry. Potter's setting of standards for sellers and resellers alike has been reinforced by his involvement in trade and industry associations, including the Communication Managers Association (CMA) and Global Enterprise Market Development (GEMD), where he served as a council member, and the Enterprise Communications Association (ECA).
