Many organizations choose to integrate Microsoft Lync with an existing PBX, at least on a temporary basis. This integration could be used as part of a pilot to test Lync or to temporarily leverage an existing PBX investment until end of maintenance. Sometimes integration is required only on a short-term basis as the organization migrates to Lync Enterprise Voice. Whatever the reason, some key points need to be considered when planning your integration.

Multiple manufacturers are supporting Microsoft Lync and developing some very smart and efficent end points. For example the Snom 300 with Snom OCS firmware is the first open-SIP-based IP desktop phone to natively register to the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Lync.
