Matson
International IP Telephony Solution Links China and U.S. Sites.
Situation
Matson Navigation Company, Inc., a principal carrier of containerized freight and automobiles between the West Coast and Hawaii, Guam and Mid-Pacific, expanded its operations to two new sites in China – Ningbo and Shanghai – in 2006. The company was looking for a simple, reliable and cost-effective solution to connect its international locations to its domestic offices located throughout the United States.
Solution
Avaya Platinum BusinessPartner SOURCE, teaming with Avaya BusinessPartner NSE of China, worked closely with Mike Sedehi, Senior Manager Enterprise Site Support for Matson Navigation, to design and implement the solution. A thorough evaluation of the company's existing infrastructure was performed, and Matson's specific requirements were determined. After integrating the two, SOURCE presented Matson with its recommendation on the best way to enable efficient communication between U.S.-based and China-based offices.
Responding to Matson's request for simplicity, the implementation plan included custom IP trunk programming of Matson's Phoenix-based G3si R1.3 (Communication Manager), which allowed four-digit dialing between Matson/U.S. and Matson/China. Reliability, ease of implementation and enterprise-class call processing were achieved by deploying Avaya's S8300/G700 solution in China. With this solution, calls were routed over the company's newly installed MPLS network between Phoenix and China via IP trunks, and conversely, calls originating in Matson/China destined for Matson/U.S. tandem off of the China S8300 were routed over the MPLS network.
Evaluation
"An IP solution is an investment towards security and advanced communication technology solutions," said Klaus Hillmann, corporate sales director for SOURCE. "Flexibility is a big plus; a company may put in a pure IP solution or a hybrid that mixes IP with existing phone systems – thus maximizing current investment on an existing infrastructure. Extended applications can enhance productivity by expanding corporate functionality to remote or branch sites. Cost savings realized on international calls alone are significant."
"SOURCE experts managed the implementation of this solution," said Sedehi. "The company's proposed solution allowed for all programming to be done in-house and prior to the installation, resulting in an efficient, fast and highly successful implementation."
SOURCE, with an Avaya solution, was able to efficiently design and implement the right solution, the first time. Just another example of how SOURCE is powering business communication.
